Be sure to take a look at www.schepenbankregisters.be! Among others some short videos on multiple aspects of the project.

The City Record Office of Leuven started the Itinera Nova project in 2009, aiming at a complete and unabridged digitalization of the most extensive Ancien Regime source in its possession, and at gradually facilitating its on-line consultation.

The source archives consist of 1.127 registers of the Louvain Bench of Aldermen, altogether covering an uninterrupted period of over 4 centuries: 1362-1795. The repository of source materials that they constitute for the history of Leuven and the Duchy of Brabant (now the Belgian provinces of Flemish and Walloon Brabant and Antwerp, and the province of North-Brabant in the Netherlands) had as yet remained largely unexploited.

The project makes use of up-to-date technology and is largely run by a community of 50 volunteers, most of whom invest their free time to transcribe the handwritten registers folio by folio.
